Comfort and Tranquility
Luxury Hebridean Holiday Cottage
Luxury Hebridean Holiday Cottage
The cottage has oak flooring throughout, spacious living room with vaulted ceiling and multi-fuel stove, large windows overlooking the bay maximize the light and the views. Patio doors lead out onto a decked area where you can enjoy a morning coffee or aperitif alfresco – weather permitting !
As the property is nestled against the ruins of the original old black-house it also provides an intimate outdoor space to the rear accessed from the french doors in the fully equipped kitchen. There is a large bathroom with a separate bath and shower, twin wash basins and toiletries are from the Highland Soap Company. A utility area off the entrance hall provides space to hang up your cagoule and kick off your walking boots after a hike in the hills or a walk on one of the twenty-something beaches in Uig; there is also a washer/dryer for your convenience.
The bedroom has king-size bed, luxury bed linen, towels and robes and a big picture window overlooking the sands. The interior colour scheme is restful, inspired by the landscape, and original artwork furnishes the walls.
The croft on which it is built tumbles down to the turquoise ocean, is joined by the peaty Red River, and meets a two mile stretch of white shell sand – linger to watch sandscape gradually becomes seascape where in summer the colour palette is more akin to the Carribean.
There are also great views into the Uig Hills and off to the west, on the long summer evenings you can watch as the sun slowly sets into the Atlantic Ocean – in winter enjoy the glorious night skies and northern lights.
Wake up to the sights and sounds of the sea and venture down to the beach for a swim or a morning stroll, the haunt of oyster catchers and gulls and in summer the corncrake; and if you’re up really early maybe even catch a glimpse of a pair of elusive otters that live up river.
Port Carnish is a very special place to stay – a perfect retreat.
